Roadtrip to Colorado

Taking last minute roadtrips with my family has always been one of my favorite things to do. They're spontaneous, adventurous and gives me a chance to be with family before heading back to school.

Destination: Telluride, Colorado

Time: 3 days

While our timeline was short we drove through many small towns, making one adventure that seemed never ending. I hope this shows you that you don't have to go far to fulfill your wonderlust needs. By starting in Flagstaff, AZ our total driving time was around 6 hours so I recommend bringing games to help pass the time.

Since we had a late morning start we didn't get to Durango until 6pm. I recommend heading to Carver's Brewing Co for dinner. They have a great selection of different foods and their Lime Chicken Chili Verde is a great entree that is filled with protein and a kick of spice.

The next morning we left for Telluride and to get the most out of our trip we decided to take the million dollar highway, it might have taken a little longer but the views were well worth it. We stopped in the following towns; Silverton, Ouray, Placerville and finally Telluride. In Silverton, most of the

shops were closed and the only things open were a gas station, restaurant and tourist store. I do recommend making a stop in Ouray, they have a beautiful downtown and there are many little coffee shops and restaurants as well as cute boutique shops that make it well worth it. For coffee, Mouse's Chocolate & Coffee was a great place, they had pastries and chocolate desserts. When we finally got to Telluride the first thing on our list was to ride the Gondola, they are free and offer the best views by far! Afterwards we rode the gondola back into town where we looked around in the downtown stores. For dinner, we went to High Pie Pizzeria & Tap Room, we ordered "triple cork" and the "yard sale". Their pizza is perfectly cooked and the crust is a great balance of thin and thick crust. After a long day we made our way back to Durango using a shorter route driving on freeway 145.

For our last day, we made sure to leave early to not get home so late. We had breakfast at Oscar's Cafe where I had the best breakfast burrito, but they are also known for their enormous pancakes, french toast, and green chili entrees. On our way back we decided to make a stop at the four corners and take a look at some of the vendors.

Let me know in the comments what are the most beautiful drives you've been on, and if your a roadtrip or airplane person?

Happy Adventuring,
